With the (impending) arrival of your newborn, there are so many things you would want to do. Among the many important things to do is first to decorate her/his room in the best way possible. If you already have a child, both of you can engage in some great kids’ art activities to come up with great art for the baby nursery. Else, you could create it yourself, purchase it from outside, or allow your little one to grow up a little, and create the artwork together. Here, we bring to you some ideas to decorate with art for babies’ and toddlers’ rooms.

Art for Babies’ Rooms

Among the many baby room decor ideas is to have interesting wall art in the room. Apart from room colors, trim and decorations, wall art is something that personalizes a space, and gives it a humane dimension.

Hand Print Art for Babies
Having your little one’s hand prints captured for life is not only a beautiful memory, but also makes for great wall art for babies’ rooms. Not only hand prints, even footprints can do the trick, and perhaps, framing the two together is a great idea. To make this, paint a large stretch of canvas in a bright color. Make safe paints by adding a few drops of food coloring (contrasting the background color) to light corn syrup. Dip your baby’s hands in it, and have her/him make a collage of her/his own hand prints all over. You can do the same with the footprints by having her/him walk all over the canvas after dipping her/his feet in the paint. Frame it, and you have a gorgeous piece of art for your little one’s room.

Letter Art for Babies
For babies who are not of the age of creating art for their own rooms, use wooden letters of different sizes to create an interesting piece of art, along with other art elements. This is one of the better ideas for decorating a baby room. It looks like a great piece of art, when you have her/his name spelled out in these wooden letters, embellished with other decorative elements. Since these letters are easily available, putting them up on a bright colored wall with interesting designs will just add the right amount of style to the little one’s own haven.

Shredded Paper Art for Babies
This is an interesting piece of art that you can create with your little one. Sit with your little one and shred crepe paper of different colors till you have a large heap collected. Make safe glue with the use the cooled liquid remaining from curdled milk (can be made by heating milk and adding vinegar to it), some baking soda and warm water to it. The more water you add, the thinner the glue will be. Spread this glue on the cardboard, and you and your little one can simply start tossing the shards of paper on the glue. Allow it to dry overnight, and you’ll have a masterpiece created by your little one ready to be put up! This artwork can be framed and used as it is, or as a background for a collage of photographs of your baby!

Clip Art for Babies
Clip art for babies’ rooms are another great choice among the many nursery wall decor ideas. These are available in several shapes and designs in the form of 3-D stickers, that actually give a very realistic appearance to the room. These stickers are available in the form of flowers, colorful trees, baby faces, butterflies, cute animals such as rabbits, owls, and squirrels, and a host of other objects and shapes. When placed strategically, these stickers add the perfect dimension to the room to complete it.

Other items of art for babies’ rooms you can use are nursery wall decals, paintings made by you, symbolic of the coming of your child, or simply colorful objects to stimulate the child’s mind. You could make or buy posters for babies, with cute quotes and sayings that are personalized. A photo collage of your child, or you and your child, is another great idea as wall art for babies’ and toddlers’ rooms. Art for baby’s rooms can also be based on the baby room themes you decide to follow. In effect, any arts and crafts you believe will not only add to the decor of your baby’s room, but will also be a great memory of all the great things she/he did as a little one, can be created and preserved for a lifetime. Even if it is an irregularly shaped piece of clay, bring it to life by painting it and giving it a third dimension. That is how unique art for and by babies can be!

Ask any parent what is the most difficult part of parenting and they will unanimously say it is keeping the toddlers busy! Children below the age of three and above one and half years are known as toddlers. During this age, they are still learning how to walk, talk and use their hands. At this age, babies and toddlers display a natural curiosity about every new thing. Keeping all these things in mind is very necessary when parents are planning activities for toddlers at home, to keep them occupied.

Fun Activities for Toddlers at Home

Talking
One of the fun activities for toddlers and parents is to engage in chatter or talk with one another. Although, the child might not be able to understand what the parent is saying, yet such an activity does help in improving his language, communication and listening skills. When an adult talks to an infant, he absorbs lots of words and retains quite a few in his memory.

Playing with Balls
Playing with balls of different sizes is one of the most interesting games for toddlers at home. It is not only fun, but also helps in building upon the motor skills of a child. What parents can do is to throw balls of different sizes at a distance and then ask the toddler to get them back. The toddler will walk, crawl or run towards the ball, then he will try to clasp it in his hands and get it back to the parents. Such outdoor games for toddlers improve his ability to work with hands, feet and legs.

Making Things with Playdough
Another fun thing to do with toddlers at home is to have them make different things and shapes out of the playdough. Parents will have to first of all teach them how to do it. Some of the simple things that can be taught to toddlers are rolling the playdough, making small balls out of it or giving it different shapes like a square or a circle.

Painting
Art activities for toddlers are a must as the kids enjoy immensely while playing with colors. A fun activity is to have the kids make their different colored hand prints on a piece of paper. For this kids’ art activity, you will need water painting colors of various colors like red, blue, yellow, green, white and black. Keep a plain chart on the ground. Mix the colors with water and place them in dishes. Now, take the child’s hand, dip it in the color and again put it back on the paper. The child will be thrilled to see the color riot he is creating with his hand imprints!

Scrapbooking
An interesting activity for arts and crafts for toddlers at home is to make a scrapbook with them. For conducting this activity, parents have to choose some of the best family photographs, especially the ones in which the child is there. Once the photographs, glue, and scrapbook are ready, the parents should teach the child how to put the glue behind the photographs and paste it on the scrapbook. To entertain the child throughout this kids’ crafts activity, show him each and every photograph before pasting it.

Picnicking
One of the ways for teaching toddlers at home about nature, the sun, sand, sea, trees, etc. is to recreate a beach scene in your own garden. So, one day you can plan this adventure wherein you carry things like a suntan lotion, a food basket, beach towels, straw hats with you to the garden. Carry a few pictures of the sea and the beach. Once at the garden, show the toddler the pictures and tell him about the fish, pebbles, sand, sunset, sunrise and everything else that is associated with the sea. To make such toddler activities at home even more interesting, carry a lot of beach pictures with you. To extend this activity, teach your child how to draw a fish!

These are some fun activities for toddlers at home. They will not only keep the child happy and busy, but will contribute immensely towards overall child development too!
